2020 has finally arrived. Change of decade, but also stage. With this year begins a new era in which cannabis is going to take more and more relevance. In Italy, light marijuana is legal as of today. In the United States, they want to propose a regulation at the federal level, and this year the UN must decide on the WHO recommendation to reclassify cannabis and decriminalize CBD.
And in Spain? Although a priori we do not see significant changes in our legislation, the formation of the new government opens several possibilities for at least debate on cannabis in Congress. The PSOE promised this in its electoral program, and its main partners, Podemos and ERC, have always supported the legalization of medical and recreational marijuana.
And although the PP has never admitted it in public, several of its leaders are in favor of regulating it. Citizens, meanwhile, bet first to address the medicinal issue. VOX has not ruled on the subject, although its leader has already joked with possible legalization if one day he became President.
2020: Regulation takes shape in the cannabis sector
If we know something about cannabis users, it is not going to be legalized alone. And that our politicians have never been for the task of freely discussing the issue since they continue to consider it a taboo. Therefore, the Spanish cannabis sector has always been characterized by having that much-needed activist component. Let’s not forget that activists founded a large part of the pioneer cannabis companies in Spain in search of normalization.
One of the agents that have worked most actively this year is European Cannabis Consumption and Cultivation Observatory (OECCC). Just a few days ago, they presented a poster with all the achievements they had achieved in 2019. From gathering 45,000 people in a demonstration to visiting 11 political parties or submitting a proposal for the Medicinal Cannabis Law. We, how could it be otherwise, we also participate in the OECCC as members of its technical council.
The different agents that are part of the cannabis sector, from the consumer to the cannabis entrepreneur, must become aware and join forces for a regulation that covers us all. From Elite Seeds, we have always defended the rights of the consumer and the self-cultivator above all. We believe that there is no regulation without self-cultivation, and that is why we actively fight for the cause.
Perhaps a useful purpose for 2020 is to help our beloved Plant to escape from those bars called prohibition. Join a pro-regulation organization, become an activist, and defend Maria as she deserves. The Plant needs you. It is the moment to act. Without a doubt, 2020 will be the year of cannabis.
